The Photographs

As the time approaches for the Anniversary celebration in the town of Iris Creek, we see a lot of rail activity of special trains, as well as the regular runs that must be continued to carry goods and supplies to other areas of the country.

Out of the tunnel and over the trestle, eastbound, on module 2, a pair of E units is hauling the days express passenger train.  (Here you have a good view of one of the Walther's backdrop scenes showing at the upper right corner).

Apparently a photographer has found a good spot to shoot his pictures from one side of the canyon.  As a Rail Fan himself, he has found out that the ICV is a heavily traveled railroad that has many different roads using it to cross the mountains on, and he has gotten some great photographs from this vantage point.

From below, the new Diesel locomotives that the ICV has acquired look massive.

Steam specials are often run on the ICV, particularly if there is a lot of shipments that must be made in a short amount of time.  This articulated is the heavy hauler in the mountains.  Here it is crossing the timber trestle, on module 2.

A Santa Fe through passenger is making it's way east, on module 3.

There is a good sized oil facility that handles the storage of both crude and refined oil, on module 10.  Tanker trucks are used to haul it to the communities in the remote part of the mountains where there is no rail service.

The ICV gets some of it's oil from oil wells in the area, on module 8.  Of course, it has to be transported to the refinery and back before it can be used.

Here we find a caboose waiting on one of the sidings.  It may be set out here for the Rail Fans that will soon be coming to the Anniversary celebration.

A major freight headed up by four locomotives is rolling through the Mesa Verde area, on module 9.

The "Big Hook" sits quietly by the water tank on module 4, where it is normally spotted when the steam locomotives are not running Rail fan specials.  Of course with the Anniversary celebration getting close at hand, it will have to be moved.

The pair of E units hauling the days express passenger train is nearing the town area, on module 4.

A couple of box cars waiting for delivery as an eastbound train moves slowly through the station area, on module 5.

A pair of steam locomotives is a rare treat on the ICV.  The train on the far track is pulling a Rail Fan special.  The loco on the near track is waiting for the Rail Fan special to pass so it can complete it's photo run-by and some switching moves for the crowd that has gathered in the area for the Anniversary celebration.

Traveling eastbound, just leaving the station and town area, on module 5, we see a trio of GP38's working their way down the line.

A couple of reefers near the copper mine, on module 6, delivering supplies.

It must be time for the big celebration in town.  Activity at the copper mine, on module 7, seems to have slowed down.
