J.E. Harmon - TT
Who I Am
Many of you already know me. For those that don't, my name
is John E. Harmon And I have been an avid TT collector and manufacturer
since 1968. Many of you recognize my name when talking about TT,
however, my model railroading background has included all gauges from Z
to 1 1/2 inch scale (live steam) both scale and tinplate. I'm
proud to say some of my ideas and prototypes have been put into
production by such companies as Lionel, MTH, Mike's Train House and
others. I've also been instrumental in encouraging and aiding
others to form Model Railroading business.
I'm a member of both the TCA (Train Collectors Association) and
the NMRA (National Model Railroad Association) since the early
1970's. I have also been involved with a number of local train
clubs.
TT scale remains my main interest. Although I do not have a
layout now, the ultimate layout will be an "around the walls" type that
I dream of creating in the next house. To that end, I am
continuously working and modeling.
What I Do
I produce new, "never before available in TT" items for that "some
day" TT scale layout that I plan to build. In the process of
creating these things for myself, it is not a long stretch to make
extras so that anyone who may be of like interest could obtain kits and
materials through me. I am not really in business now. At
best, I try and encourage sales in hopes of getting back some of my
investment in order to be able to continue to create more and different
items, these also to be available to others, all in limited quantities
that, in most cases, will not be repeated.
Mailing List
I have a list of names that I send regular and special mailings
to. If you would like to be included, send me you name, address,
and phone number. I DO NOT sell or otherwise give out this
information to other people or organizations. (I do not have any
computer contact at this time.)
Of Special Note (Items Wanted)
I am always looking to obtain more TT equipment as well as
parts. I am always looking for more HP stamped brass trucks, both
freight and passenger car types. I also am looking for the HP
Products "automatic" TT freight and passenger car couplers.
Do you have any HP Products stamped brass 6 wheel tender
trucks? If you do, I will give you $50.00 cash or trade (per
pair) for them.
Product Information News
- 85 foot smooth side passenger car kits - These are still available. See complete pictures HERE
- The new building kits are now available. (See the pictorial farther below on this page.)
After years of artwork and organizing I am proud to bring you a
"different" concept in building TT gauge structures for your
layout. A simple inexpensive way of providing TT building kits
for you...in a manner that keeps shipping costs to a small amount. There are 38
different structures representing a complete city for your
consideration. Each kit consists of color copies, detailed plans,
and some wood or resin parts depending on the complication of the kit
chosen. You the builder,
supply wood strips, light or heavy cardstock, and the talent. The
kits are mailed in cardboard tubes, rolled up inside. You are
responsible for laminating the color copies on cardstock you
supply. I use 3M brand "Super 77" multipurpose adhesive which I
know covers a great amount of material. After
mounting the
color copies, cut out all windows and doors, and ultimately the walls
to be assembled per the plans. Kits B7, B31, B38 come with clear
plastic windows with black mullions. All other structures come
with paper windows and doors in 6 different colors for your
choice. Lights may be installed if you wish. (lights not included)
The first "group" of buildings available are listed in the TT scale
On-Line catalog. More will be added in the future. As time
permits, more variations of these structures will be available.
- Tractor Trailers - I am still working on a series of tractor
trailers for TT scale. Also there is a possibility of some 1950's
automobiles.
- Weston TT figures - Do you remember the TT scale Weston hand
painted figures? I should have these three Weston TT figures
available in the not too distant future. These were the engineer
waving, the brakeman on a ladder, and a brakeman sitting on top of a
box car catwalk. Price and availability TBA.
- UP Gas Turbine - Many of you heard over the years that Mr. Larry
Sayre had intentions of producing a TT gauge "Union Pacific Gas
Turbine". It's my pleasure to tell you that I have taken over the
job from Larry. The Turbine will be available as soon as
possible. I have already acquired a number of references for the
entire "Gas Turbine History". I can tell you that the Turbine
that will be made is number 51 with the "round" tender. It will
have a cast resin body and tender. Twin motored brass "Kemtron
Alco trucks" with a brass chassis. They will be sold painted and
ready to run. Expected price will most likely be in the $600 to
$700 price range for each locomotive. A color picture of number
51 is on the cover of the July 1970 issue of Railroad Model
Craftsman. Number 59 is extremely similar to number 51 and I will
offer either number. As I get into more specifics of the project,
I will require a deposit when you order one.
